Privacy Policy

I am Betsy Walker, and I run Taming Your Tech. This page explains what information I collect when you visit this site, sign up for something, or hire me, and what I do with it.

Short version: I collect very little, I do not sell any of it, and you can ask me to delete it at any time.

What I collect

When you give it to me. If you fill out a form, book a call, subscribe to the newsletter, download a resource, or email me, I get whatever you typed. Usually that is your name, your email address, your company name, and sometimes your phone number and a description of what is going wrong in your business.

When you book a call. Scheduling runs through Calendly. It collects your name, email, and the time you picked, and it puts the meeting on both our calendars.

Automatically, when you visit. Like most websites, this one records standard technical information: the pages you looked at, roughly where you are (city level, from your IP address), what browser and device you used, and what site sent you here. This is aggregate traffic data. I use it to see which articles people actually read.

When you become a client. Delivering the work means I get access to the systems we agreed I would work in. See “Your business data during an engagement” below, because that is the part that matters most.

What I do with it

  • Answer you when you contact me
  • Send the resource, checklist, or roadmap you asked for
  • Send the newsletter, if you subscribed
  • Schedule and prepare for our calls
  • Quote, deliver, and invoice the work
  • Understand which pages and articles are worth writing more of

That is the whole list. I do not build profiles, run ad retargeting, or enrich your contact record with data bought from anyone.

What I do not do

I do not sell your information. Not to data brokers, not to lead-generation companies, not to anybody, for money or for anything else of value.

I do not share your information with other businesses for their marketing. If a colleague would be a better fit for what you need, I will introduce you, and I will ask you first.

I do not use your business as a case study without asking. Every testimonial, before-and-after screenshot, and success story on this site is published with the owner’s permission.

Who else touches your information

Running a business means using other companies’ software, and some of it holds your information on my behalf. Each one is bound by its own privacy terms and works for me, not for itself:

I will also hand over information if the law genuinely requires it, which for a business this size means a court order or a legitimate government request.

Recorded calls and AI notes

I use an AI notetaker (Fireflies.ai or Loom) on most working calls, and sometimes I record a Zoom session so I can go back and get the details right.

I tell you at the start of the call, every time, and if you would rather I did not, say so and I will turn it off. No explanation needed, and it changes nothing about the work.

Recordings and transcripts are stored in my accounts, used to write up what we decided and what I owe you, and are not shared with anyone outside the engagement. Ask me to delete a specific recording and I will.

Your business data during an engagement

This is the part that matters if you hire me. Fixing your systems means getting into them, so I will often end up with access to your customer list, your invoices, your inbox, your website, and your admin logins.

How I handle that:

  • I only take the access the job needs, and I ask for it explicitly rather than assuming.
  • Credentials go in 1Password. They are never emailed, texted, or written on paper.
  • When the work is done, tell me to remove my access and I will, that day. I would rather you did that than leave a door open you forgot about.
  • Your data stays yours. I do not copy it into my own systems, use it to market to your customers, or take it with me. Working files I created for you get handed over or deleted at your request.
  • I do not talk about your business by name to other clients or in public without asking first.

If we sign a written agreement, its confidentiality terms govern, and they sit on top of everything in this section.

Cookies and tracking

I do not use Google Analytics. There is no Facebook pixel, no LinkedIn tag, and no advertising or retargeting tool of any kind on this site. I cannot tell who you are unless you tell me.

The cookies this site does set are the ones WordPress and the security firewall need to function: keeping a form from submitting twice, remembering you are logged in if you are me, blocking traffic that looks like a bot.

A few pages embed tools from other companies, and those set their own cookies while you are on the page: the scheduling widget from Calendly, video players from ScreenPal, testimonials from Senja. Those cookies belong to those companies and are covered by their privacy terms, not mine.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Nothing here will break if you do.

Email

If you subscribe to the newsletter, you get practical articles and occasional notes about what I am doing. Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, it works immediately, and using it does not affect anything else.

Clients also get emails about their actual project. Those are part of the work, not marketing, and they keep coming until the project is done.

How long I keep things

  • Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete you.
  • People who inquired but did not hire me: about two years, in case you come back.
  • Clients: for the length of the engagement plus seven years, because tax and contract records have to be kept.
  • Call recordings and transcripts: through the engagement, then deleted on request.
  • Website traffic data: aggregate only, kept indefinitely, and it is not tied to your name.

How I protect it

Every account I use has multi-factor authentication turned on. Credentials live in a password manager, never in a spreadsheet or a note. The site sits behind a firewall and a managed host. My laptop is encrypted and requires a password.

No one can promise a system is unbreakable, and I will not pretend otherwise. If something happened that affected your information, I would tell you, quickly and in plain language.

Your choices

At any time, you can ask me to:

  • Tell you what information I have about you
  • Correct anything that is wrong
  • Delete it
  • Stop emailing you
  • Stop recording our calls

Email me at betsy@tamingyourtech.com and I will take care of it, usually the same week. I will not make you fill out a form or explain why.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional legal rights over your information. Ask, and I will honor them regardless of whether the law requires me to.

Children

This site is for business owners. I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent me something, email me and I will delete it.

Links to other sites

Some pages link to other companies’ sites and tools. Once you click through, you are on their turf and under their privacy terms, not mine.

Changes to this policy

If I change how I handle information, I will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes get a note in the newsletter rather than a quiet edit.
